2009: Dr. Mustapha Belhabib joined the University of Liège as a Visiting Professor for the Master II degree program in Engineering, specializing in sustainability. During his tenure, he spearheaded several sustainability projects with students, focusing on biobased materials and renewable energy—both of which emerged as crucial components for engineering sustainable products.
2013: Natuura BV was established in the Netherlands with the support of the Dutch government agency LIOF. The company was founded to conduct in-depth research and testing of renewable energy solutions in combination with advanced biobased performance materials.
2015: A working group was formed by Dr. Belhabib, alongside colleagues and partners, including architects, designers, builders, agritech, and energy experts. The group’s mission was to explore the concept of ultimate self-sufficient buildings, with parking areas and rooftops serving as key energy sources. This self-sustaining building concept was later presented to the Walloon Minister of Economy, receiving positive feedback along with several recommendations for further development.
2019: The AVEVA Smart Life platform was initiated to advance the concept of a fully self-sufficient house that integrates biobased materials with clean, renewable energy. This initiative led to the establishment of over 20 partnerships with companies across Europe, China, and the USA, all contributing to the development of this innovative vision. The acronym AVEVA stands for Accommodation, Vitality, Energy, Vehicles, and Activity.
2020: Plans were made to establish a company in Belgium to transform these concepts into tangible products. However, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic delayed these efforts.
2023: TONOMIA SRL was officially established in Belgium on June 13th 2023. The name “TONOMIA” was selected through an AI-powered naming tool, as the name “AVEVA” was already in use by another company. From the overarching vision of self-sustaining buildings, including projects like eLife, eHouse, eFarm, and eParking, the decision was made to prioritize the development of eParking due to its substantial potential impact. Mr. Jean-Luc Boulanger a business man from the Liege région quickly expressed a strong interest in investing in eParking Solar. As a result, a separate entity, eParking Solar SRL, was formed. TONOMIA SRL holds a 60% ownership stake based on intellectual equity, while Jean-Luc Boulanger holds 40%, reflecting his financial investment and advisory support.
The sophistication of the eParking solution is therefore, the product of over a decade of innovative, out-of-the-box thinking, beginning with a blank slate and evolving into a pioneering concept. This journey has been recognized with the Outstanding Award from the EuPD Research Institute, a testament to the excellence of our solution confirmed by the enthusiasm of our customers.
